There is the body and its life.
There is sentience…the experience of being embodied.
These two things are inextricably intertwined, yet I state with confidence
that there are acts that affect the body
and acts that affect sentience. Torture, for instance,
can be directed solely at the body, or at the mind and the body.
The latter is the most cruel and constitutes crimes against both embodiment and sentience.
