Sad News

We received word this week that a long time friend and columnist at the Tree, Gabrielle Perreault, passed away on November 20th, 2008. Her words and her wisdom will be sorely missed on our pages.
Whether she was sharing with us her robust sense of humor, or her deepest depression, Gaby’s writings were always very personal and genuine. That is a kind of bravery that is most rare. It made her words powerful and it was that quality I always admired most over the nine years she graced our pages and enriched our lives.
Way back in 1999 she wrote these words as the ending to her personal declaration The Gift of Being…it was the very first of many fine writings by Gaby that crossed my desk:
“The past is for lessons, the future is for hope ~ today is mine. I will spend it wisely, and I am grateful.”
Gaby spent each “today” wisely and touched a great many lives in so doing. In her words, she left us a great many lessons from the past…at times, she painted us a future full of hope. It is hard to imagine I will never share a laugh over a cup of coffee with her again. It is harder still to imagine her latest thoughts and experiences will no longer be showing up in my inbox or gracing our pages.
Gaby, you will be missed, and I will always remember your words.
