Voice like a pool cue

part of: Postcards to the World

by Celeste Roth

I realize I’ve always used my voice like a pool cue,
To control the balls, to control the table
To direct things.
But that takes the information away from me about what would have happened
What would have developed, been revealed
Had I not spoken up
What if I stop trying to direct things by talking
And let the pool table and the balls move in the wind, creaking
Stop trying to drive the minds of others down my road
And just watch what happens
What will I learn?
